Dog chest sizes

Chest girth for 92 breeds, smallest to largest. Free to use, free to share.

Figures are the usual adult chest in centimetres, gathered from harness and apparel sizing charts. They are a guide, not a measurement of your dog.

Mixed breeds take after whichever parent they take after, so there is no figure to give. Puppies are still growing, and the chest keeps widening for months after the height stops. Overweight dogs measure larger than the breed range.

Entries marked * can run over 90 cm in large males. Entries marked † are heavily coated — part the coat and measure on the skin, or the number comes out too big.

How to measure

Soft tape around the widest part of his chest, just behind the front legs. Between two sizes, size up.

No tape measure? Use his lead, or a shoelace. Wrap it round, mark where it meets, then lay it flat and measure that. No ruler either? There are free measuring apps and websites.

The neck column is a guide, not a target. The hood is for the loud part, not the whole evening. Pull it up over his ears when the noise starts, and fold it back down around his neck when it settles. Nothing on this vest needs to be tight at the throat.

Every time you put it on, check his neck. He should be able to swallow, pant and turn his head with nothing pulling on him.
